Management Decision Support (MDS)
The SIMS Management Decision Support (MDS) team gathers existing data
from partner organizations to develop comprehensive information to
support
decision-making.
The team is responsible for:
- Providing analysis, interpretation and reporting of data/information (e.g. clinical, patient satisfaction, etc.) to support management and clinical decision-making;
- Creating performance indicators and providing analysis in the form of routine or ad hoc reports to trigger improvement opportunities within the organization;
- Coding and abstracting clinical information on the patient chart;
- Supporting efforts to continually improve data quality across the organization;
- Acting as decision support consultants on various SIMS projects.
Our
Current Work
Our services span across the acute, rehabilitation, complex
continuing, long-term and community care sectors. Some of our projects
include:
- Implementation of an interactive, web-based reporting tool to support planning, performance tracking and accountability efforts at all levels of the organization;
- Using information collected from across the health care field to describe the patient flow process and diagnose issues / gaps to offer recommendations in the following areas: efficiency, capacity, and policy;
- Participating in provincial initiatives (e.g. Wait Times Information System (WTIS), Emergency Department Reporting System (EDRS), and Critical Care Information System (CCIS))
Our Team
MDS staff have the opportunity to gain experience using data and
information across the health care field, which spans the acute, rehabilitation,
complex continuing, long-term and community care sectors. A knowledgeable
and skill-rich team, MDS staff come from various educational backgrounds
and have diverse professional training in fields such as:
- Engineering
- Epidemiology
- Business administration
- Coding and abstracting
- Health sciences/Health Information
